What is a doula?
A Doula is a professional who is skilled at providing emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual support for an expectant parent, birthing women and/or family.
Sometimes translated as ‘Woman Servant’, a doula ‘mothers the mother’ and/or the birthing women.
A doula’s job typically forms one part of the birth team alongside registered health professionals, family, friends, and community.
Doulas are trained to provide nurturing support, information, and planning without adding their own agenda. They are to serve with unconditional positive regard, love, and consciousness.
